American Dental Plan is a subsidiary of CompBenefits Corporation. CompBenefits is nationally recognized as a leader in dental plan benefit administration. With a presence in 24 states, CompBenefits provides dental benefits to over 2.2 million members through AMERICAN DENTAL PLAN, FLORIDA, American Prepaid Dental Plan, CompBenefits, Texas Dental Plans, National Dental Plans, Dental Plans International, DentiCare, HealthStream, American Dental Providers, and Diamond Dental. CompBenefits is a public company which is traded on NASDAQ.
Beginning in 1978, with operations in Florida, CompBenefits has expanded throughout the United States.
By 1995, CompBenefits had expanded into the states of Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, North Carolina and Ohio.
In 1994, CompBenefits broadened their presence into Texas through the purchase of DentiCare, Inc., and UniLife.
In 1995 there was further growth to be seen with the expansion into Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri and West Virginia through the purchase of CompBenifits Corporation.
Texas Dental Plans, National Dental Plans and Dental Plans International were also acquired in 1996. One of the largest dental care administrators in Illinois was also acquired that same year and that being Dental Care Plus.
The acquisitions of American Dental Providers and Diamond Dental were concluded in March of 1997.
First and foremost, CompBenefits is a service organization that places extraordinary emphasis on meeting the needs of members, employers, and providers. A local presence in each market helps ensure local service while our centralized management provides consistency and cost efficiencies. The parent company - CompBenefits Corporation - is located in Atlanta, Georgia and is the administrative location. CompBenefits provides management expertise, MIS, member service, billing and underwriting support services to each state company. Each state has local offices that are responsible for marketing and dental relations. Recruiting, credentialing, quality management and ongoing provider relations are included in these offices.
CompBenefits works with major clients such as private industries, school systems, municipalities and government groups. The gaining of extensive network maintenance experience has proven the capabilities of CompBenefits to handle any size employer, large or small.
Being a leader in dental network management, CompBenefits Quality Management is a priority. Each participating dentist is carefully evaluated using standard, measurable criteria. This includes: an extensive review of all credentials, license verification, DEA certification and verification of malpractice insurance. CompBenefits National Dental Director, a dentist, heads up this Quality Management inter-company function. The individual states are also staffed by dental professionals including three additional dentists.
Through new product designs, territory expansion and acquisitions, CompBenefits will continue to grow. To be national in scope and still keeping the local focus on service is CompBenefits intentions. Innovative product implementations will secure their position as the dental plan leader in today's market.
